Create an interpretive centre which acts as a focal point for visitors to St Abbs, a popular fishing village located on the south east coast of Scotland.”
The centre has been created to act as a focal point for visitors to St Abbs, a popular fishing village located on the south east coast of Scotland.
Housed in the original village hall, the centre provides an engaging mix of interpretation – telling both the story of St Abbs’ past and how the village remains a thriving community today. The attractions of St Abbs range from, not only its world class diving but also its extraordinary natural setting which includes St Abbs Head, one of the most important seabird sites in Scotland.
Although relatively small, the centre provides a wide range of interpretation, particularly audio media using recordings of characters from both the past and present to tell the many stories related to St Abbs.
Central to the exhibition is a large display wall housing an intriguing range of artefacts sourced by the local community which range from remnants of shipwrecks to emergency flares and various sailing and fishing memorabilia.
