The Brief

To create a unique café and restaurant that reflected the rich heritage of Scotch Whisky using a whisky-inspired palette.”

Our Response

The warm, welcoming space with a rich, contemporary feel has been created using a carefully selected palette of materials which draws directly on both the Scottish connection and stories of whisky.

Working within a listed building and with space restrictions the very best was made of the unusual space to provide a memorable café experience which includes fine dining and one of Edinburgh’s best whisky bars.

Working with the client and specialist fit-out contractors Laurence McIntosh we designed and specified a range of specially commissioned furniture sourced from across Scotland. This included custom artworks made from the staves of whisky barrels.

Project management was key to the successful delivery of Amber. Weekly on-site meetings with the client and key contractors allowed issues to be identified and resolved quickly without compromising the design integrity or delivery timeline of the project.

The Amber Project restaurant was a continuation of a long, well-established relationship with the Scotch Whisky Experience.
